Never let it be said that I always disagree with Senator Sam Brownback. 98% of the time I think he is ignorant at best and maniacal at worst, but we agree on refusing military funerals for convicted killers. From the AP:
The Senate passed a bill Wednesday to keep BTK serial killer Dennis Rader and other veterans convicted of murder from being buried in national cemeteries or given military funeral honors.
The bill’s backers, including Sens. Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback, both R-Kansas, and Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, said the measure would close a loophole under current law and require the Defense Department and Veterans Affairs Administration to be more proactive in checking the backgrounds of those slated for military burials.
I view this as a straightforward victim’s rights issue.
So there you have it. Will I agree Brownback again before 2008? Not likely. The guy is crazy as a loon.
I wrote a DailyKos diary today about the anti gay marriage amendment in Kansas. As a result of the hangover I had from that experience there will unfortunately be no scathing Brownback critiques today.
Brownback visiting Iowa, New Hampshire in test of possible presidential bid
“I have met with a number of social conservatives and conservative leaders in Iowa and I’m exploring the options,” Brownback said. “There’s a lot of interest in the topics that I’ve been pushing for some time.”
Brownback, one of a dozen or so ambitious candidates already warming up for the next round of presidential contests more than two years away, has visited Iowa to meet with prominent Republicans and see if he can connect with voters in informal settings, according to supporters.
He also is making inroads in New Hampshire, where he will be a keynote speaker at Cornerstone Policy Research’s April 16 award ceremony honoring lawmakers the family advocacy group supports.
When I saw this, I knew I needed to act. I have put up with having a right-wing kook for a Senator. In Kansas that is a given these days. I do not want to foist that burden upon the country. In the following posts I will examine Brownback’s key issues. While the average reality-based reader could easily deconstruct the information for themselves, I want to put specific emphasis on soundbite sized arguments. He is a nutjob, the trick is exposing his nutjobbedness.
In addition to the posts on policy issues, this blog will also serve to collect and analyze current news involving the Senator. This includes votes in congress as well as news stories in the press.
I don’t care for Senator Sam Brownback’s politics. That is putting it politely. The purpose of this blog is to act as a clearing house for Anti-Sam Brownback information. If he decides to run for President in 2008, we should be ready.
