Does Brownback Have Problems in the KS GOP?

by @ 8:46 pm. Filed under Campaign Trail

According to an AP article, he just might:

Candidates are supposed to enjoy the unquestioned backing of their parties in their home states for the obvious benefits it could bring to the state. In 1996, when Bob Dole was the GOP nominee, there seemed no question from the beginning that he would enjoy the support of any Kansas Republican of any prominence.

However, there are questions about whether Brownback can say the same.

Not only does his strong opposition to abortion and embryonic stem cell research bother moderates, but many believe he has actively helped push the state GOP to the right.

“Sen. Brownback has got to reach out to traditional Republicans, and he doesn’t seem too eager to do that,” Ryan Wright, executive director of the moderate Kansas Traditional Republican Majority, said Monday. “That leaves their votes up for grabs.”

I think it really says something when you are too extreme for the Kansas Republican Party. I have heard many of the same arguments coming from some of my Republican friends. Perhaps it is people swinging away from the hardcore Christian conservative mindset. I would note that Operation Rescue (the aborted fetus truck people) tried to stage another massive protest in Wichita that only managed to turn out 20 people.

This blog is sweet. Sam Brownback is certifiable & appears to already have the Crazy Vote locked up. I hope you stick with it through the general election, because I don’t see Sam going away after he loses in the primary, unless Jesus changes his mind and tells him it’s okay.

Traditionally, everybody in both parties thought abortion was a moral sinkhole. Guess who’s going to be aborted: Downs syndrome babies, Autistics (like me) and Gays (also like me). It’s all just too hitlerly for me, so I’m going to check out brownback with an Open Mind (a former democratic tradition.)

    Love & Kisses

What if Hitler had been aborted?

Sam Brownback is a wonderful representative. It is too bad that many people have been sold a bill of goods by the media and they believe that trash that is sold to them. Look at the state of the US in 2007. The me generation has ruined so many lives. We need those willing to speak the truth even if it is unpopular. I guess some would rather have people in the White House who have sex while with underage employees while they are on the phone talking about confidential information, or politicians who can commit murder or at the least manslaughter while not having to be responsible because of their family name or a former president who writes a book filled with so many lies that many have left the Carter Center because of this. Our country needs to be saved from those who think all that is necessary in life is to look out for themselves and to hell with everyone else.

Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and Jimmy Carter are not running for President in 2008.

I know it’s confusing, but now there are new people running for President. None of whom is Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy, or Jimmy Carter.

  6. Joe Says:

Good catch vaara–and Hitler wasn’t aborted either.

  7. Overland Park Says:

Perhaps only 20 showed up for the rally, but Johnson County is proud that our own nut job Phill Klien was one of the 20.

We appreciate that he took his new District Attorney responsibilites all the way down to Wichita.

  8. KansasNate Says:

Phill Kline needs to get the hell out of Kansas. No one here likes him anymore. Most of us never liked him in the first place.

  9. MrEMan Says:

Nissa, sorry to break it to you, but you don’t belong in Brownback’s world. If you are truly gay, he will do his best to make sure you’re pushed into the closet and then he’ll lock the door behind you. I can appreciate that you want to look at candidates with an open mind, but I can save you the trouble. He is probably one, if not the staunchest bigots on the RNC list of Presidential candidates.

  10. Joe Says:

The election of Kris Kobach to GOP chair is probably not a bad thing.
