Another day, another fiery denouncement of Roe v. Wade from Senator Sam Brownback:
Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback and California Rep. Duncan Hunter (news, bio, voting record) addressed the annual March for Life marking the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.
“We recognize a tragedy of life in Roe v. Wade, but that tragedy will not always stand,” Brownback told thousands of cheering abortion foes at an afternoon rally.
Two things. First, the more Senator Sam Brownback gets grouped with Duncan Hunter, the worse for his chances in the GOP presidential primary. Hunter is rapidly vying with Tancredo for the honor of being the GOP’s Dennis Kucinich.
Second. Broken freakin’ record. We get it. Sam Brownback doesn’t like abortion. He also doesn’t like contraception, and employs the talents of an adviser who openly advocates for the banning of all forms of contraception. I’ll let you draw conclusions about the type of America Brownback would like to live in. Think Margaret Atwood.

Have you ever thought of why Brownback and his advisor belive these things? You fail to look at both sides of arguements.
You imply that you are open minded, yet you never consider that Brownback and others might have a reason for their beliefs.
For example, banning of birth control. Many people belive it to be good because it helps regulate births.
I would agree that regulating births is a great idea. However, there is typically more than one effect to any change.
Since the legalization of birth control, the number of girls who are raped and molested each year has gone up. Why?
Because the crime is easier to cover up. In a good world we wouldn’t have to worry about that, but these things happen.
I am not defending the banning of contraception. I am pointing out that people such as Brownback have reasons for their ideas.
If you research the reasons why Brownback thinks the way he does, you might be surprized at how logical he is.
If not, well then you have stronger evidence against him. Either way, its a win-win situation.

Conspiracy theories are not rebuttal arguments.

Becky - Let me get this straight. You’re not advocating a ban on contraception, but you’re standing up for Brownback. Which is it? Your strawman arguement of “many people believe it to be good” is laughable at best. That is a fringe, extremist view on contraception and it falls well outside the views of MOST Americans.
Reality check for you, Becky - There is absolutely no acceptable reason to tell a woman she can only have sex to make babies. Brownback has his reasons? REGULATING BIRTHS? That is some serious Nazi bullshit if I ever read it! I don’t mean that rhetorically, that is some shit the Nazi’s wanted to do. A woman’s reproductive rights are not subject to anyone’s fanatical religious beliefs. The fact that you would stick up for him tells me that you are totally full of it. It’s a free country and he’s welcome to his beliefs…..

Well, lots of words, but no substance MrEMan. Becky’s point that “many people believe it to be good” was in reference to the use of birth control, not the discontinuance of it. The context made that very clear.
As far straw man arguments go, Brownback’s Great-Ban-of-All-Contraceptives-Under-the-Sun MYTH that is constantly perpetuated on this site is king. Guilt by association is not a valid argument to anyone with commmon sense.

Morning-after-pills aren’t contraceptives. They are pills with a contraceptive and abortifacient effect thus is the fight against MAP just conseuquential for a pro-lifer like Brownback.

“That is a fringe, extremist view on contraception…”
That view happens to be the professed view of over 1 billion people world-wide. That’s the Catholic view, and it’s proclaimed by 1/6 of the globe. Fringe, indeed. Ivory tower, anyone?

Anyone that feels reproductive rights are the only issue with abortion should look at the addresses of Planned Parenthood offices.
Abortion is genocide targeting the people of color in our country.

Mr.Eman shows the emptiness of his argument by playing the Nazi card.

WhoDat - If we were talking about the rest of the world your statement would hold merit. We’re discussing the views of someone who wishes to be the President of the United States and in this country anti-contraception views are absolutely held only by a small minority. There is only a small portion of Catholics, none that I know, who want to tell women they can have sex only to have babies.
Joe H - Is that it? That’s all you have? Bill O’Reilly would be proud of that response.

Again with the strawman arguments MrEMan. When Brownback proposes a nationwide ban on contraception, then, by all means, feel free to bring up your tripe.

inadvance-When you can prove Planned Parenthood is strapping women of color down to gurneys for forced abortions, or is force-feeding them birth control, then you can make your spurious claims about Planned Parenthood and genocide.
