Brownback Most Conservative Senator Running For President

Brownback Conservative RankingAt least according to the National Journal. (pdf)
Not exactly a surprise to people who are paying attention to Brownback’s nonstop litanty of intolerance and fear mongering. He knows his core supporters are the most extreme of his party, and he is working them for all they are worth.

At this point, almost 3 years out, Brownback has to continue his pandering to the religious right. Senator George Allen, also included in the rankings (79.7) is threatening to take away most of Brownback’s support from the religious base. Allen has the advantage of not appearing to be a stark raving lunatic when speaking about abortion and gay marriage. While his message is very close to Brownback’s, bis delivery comes off much less extreme. Additionally, Allen’s fundraising has been going gangbuster compared to Brownback’s weak effort.

Brownback has the street cred with the anti-abortion / dominionist wing of the republian party. The real question is whether he can expand that base of support beyond the whacko right. Personally, I don’t think he is up to it.

One more interesting but about the rankings. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist was also on the list of Presidential hopefuls. What a joke. The guy couldn’t lead himself out of a wet paper bag. While I appreciate his ineptitude, I can’t imagine the GOP would give him a chance in 2008. His chances are nil at this point.

I’ve been predicting for the last year that it’ll be Allen in ‘08. He’s considered a centrist in his party, as unbelievable as that is. The GOP is way too right-tilted to nominate McCain.

You guys are rediculous. I love how you call upon yourself to be the all-knowing powers that predict exaclty what people think (i.e. everyone shares your distorted view that Sam is one step short of satan himslef). I happen to have met Senator Brownback (as well as having family that are close friends of his) and I am aware of the issues he stands (or doesn”t stand) for. Yes, hes opposed to gay marriage, and yes, he’s opposed to abortion. Somehow a man who stands for what he believes is right becomes a radical extremest who is only followed by people you must assume live out of tents and chant occultly as the sun goes down. Contrary to your narrow minded way of thinking, there are many people who still believe abortion is murder, and they are willing to stand up for the babies who have no voice. Senator Bownback casts his vote for the issues he believes are moral; the same moral principles that are what our country was founded upon, and to you apparently , are so repulsive. Thankfully he has more to do with his time than sit around creating websites that talk about what rediculous nonsense others blieve, he’s out trying to make a difference, trying to stand up for what his heart says is right. And considering that you think any republican is a “right wing extremist” I’m sure you can’t imagine what this means.
