Brownback Moving to be Lead Hawk on Iran

by @ 9:59 am. Filed under International, Campaign Trail, Iran

Senator Sam Brownback will be the Keynote Speaker tomorrow at a Heritage Foundation event titled, “Preventing a Nuclear-Armed Iran: Will Russia and China Really Help?”:

[The United States and Germany], along with other democratic leaders, have insisted that the UN Security Council must discuss this issue and take action to prevent Iran from continuing efforts to establish a complete fuel cycle as a step toward nuclear weapons. But getting Iran on the docket at the Security Council and getting meaningful action from the Security Council will depend in large part upon what Russia and China do. Join us as our distinguished guests examine the multiple aspects of this growing crisis.

I think this is a shrewd move by Brownback.  His foreign policy experience already sets him apart from other religious conservatives eying the nomination, namely Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.  If Brownback becomes a leading conservative voice against Iran, it will set him up well to authoritatively answer voter’s questions about security.  Moreover, If Iran continues to be a problem for the international community it would help Brownback to remain in the public consciousness as a function of interviews.

What’s the point of this post? Brownback’s views toward Iran and its continual ignorance of UN/IAEA direction is well supported by a majority of Americans.

What’s the point of your post?

Iran, a problem for the international community. Now that’s humor! It is however a potential problem for the regional powerbalance of Israel.

The nuclear shit isn’t even worth talking about, Iran has no way of posing any kind of non-ridiculous “threat” even if it were suicidal and as mad as the bunch of crazies inside the White House - which they most definitely are not - it is a number of other things, which are a cause for more direct concern if we are to stay on the nuclear subject. One for example being the proliferation of relatively cheap DU handweapons against tanks, and other expensive armoured weaponry.

Now, what constitutes “meaningful action” of the SC for Brownback and other crazies, can only be achieved by the US tearing up the NPT. So what the US fucks over International Law again, who’s going to protest?

Kofi - I told the BBC the Iraq invasion is illegal, but hey what’s the problem, I just hope that we can play too - Annan?

Mohammed - I don’t know jack shit of nuclear technology but I just think it a good idea to do a little scaremongering of my own now and then, just to keep it spicy - el Baradei?

No but Russia might, who is making a buck of the completely legal trade in technology as opposed to the US making a buck in the same business in non-NPT India, be it illegal (strictly forbidden by NPT) as opposed to the Russia-Iranian deals. Well but you know..

No a meganuclear bananarepublic, an agressive rogue state extraordinaire with a general public deliberately kept as backward and fearful as it’s leaders are insane and reckless, is more of problem to the international community than a NPT and it’s Safeguards abiding, thoroughly inspected and non-agressive Iran.

Rather than respond to my questions with questions (a pitiful debate tactic), present your own thoughts and research as to why Brownback is wrong in regard to his position on Iran.

  5. KansasNate Says:

Did I ever say he was wrong? Do you bother to read?

One last time, I’ll ask: what is the point of this post? I’m beginning to use your page as my source of Brownback news–and happy to find less and less of it to be negative. Like many of your posts, you simply report on the daily happenings of the Senator, but do very little to “savage” him.

  7. KansasNate Says:

I just report it as I see it. There was no editorial comment on this post because I think this is a smart move for Brownback. I believe that there is a high likelihood of Iran continuing to be antagonistic.
