From the Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio) College Republicans Blog:
Senator Sam Brownback (R-Ks) is well-regarded as one of the most, if not THE most, conservative, pro-life United States Senator. Brownback converted to Catholicism while in office. He has agreed to fly out to come and speak at Steubenville because of all the amazing things he has heard about it! We are currently working with him on a date. Executive Board members will be able to attend a private luncheon, roundtable, or dinner with Sen. Brownback before he speaks.
Hint: Run for Executive Board!!
Yeah, I’m sure that he is visiting solely because of all the good things he has heard about them. It has nothing to do with Ohio’s prominence in Presidential elections. Nothing at all.
I have previously noted that Senator Brownback’s trips to Ohio have convinced me of his sincerity to run as a serious candidate in 2008. Ohio is not the stop you make if you don’t expect to make it past the first few primaries and caucuses.
This campaign stop is textbook Brownback. Extremely conservative school with young and eager potential volunteers coupled with older and wealthy potential donors. If Brownback hopes to be in contention in 2008, we will be seeing many more visits such as this.

“coupled with older and wealthy potential donors”
In Steubenville, Ohio? 8:1 Democrats to Republicans? Old Steel mining town with a declining population? Or are you referring to the suppossed “wealth” of parents of Steubenville kids, where 99% are taking out student loans, who are one of 5, 10, 15 kids?
Wow. You have no idea what you are talking about.
We got Brownback to come out to speak at our little conservative school in Ohio based on our own merits.

99% are taking out student loans? Really? Unfortunately your office of Financial Aid was closed when I called this evening, but I’ll call back tomorrow and confirm that amazing number.
As for wealthy donors, the Gift and Estate Planning Brochure uses a couple who gave $50,000 to the university as an example. For a candidate who can only accept $2,000 max per person in the primary race, that counts as a wealthy donor. Moreover, You can’t seriously believe that your university is solely supported by tuition. Most institutions of higher learning get a mere fraction of their operating expenses from tuition, the rest is made up of gifted endowments.
Personally, I think you exaggerated just a bit on the 99% student loans. We’ll see.

Billy,
I just got off the phone with John Herman in the Financial Aid office. He told me the roughly 80% of students at your university have some sort of financial aid. This includes merit based scholarships, grants and loans. Your number is wrong. Perhaps you should bother to check the facts before spouting off and making yourself look foolish.

Wow, I should have known you would have jumped to analyze every single part of my comment considering you’re averaging about 1 comment per 25 posts you write. That’s just a guess, if you could go actually add up all the numbers for me that’d be great.
Congrats on your borderline stalkerish tactics. Make some friends and enjoy your Christmas I MEAN holiday break with them.

I’m sure as a republican you don’t have a problem exaggerating the facts in order to make an argument appear stronger. However, I prefer to know the numbers. That’s all. Doing research about financial aid at a university is a bit different than stalking.
Thanks

Just had a quick question for the good students in Steubenville:
Have you been made aware of the Our Lady of America movement and the drive for confirmation by the American Bishops under Archbishop Raymond Burke of St. Louis?
I ran across two websites: www.oltiv.org and www.ourladyofamerica.com
I was hoping the university students might weigh in.
