Today President Bush handed Senator Sam Brownback and early Christmas present. The nomination of Harriet Miers will give Brownback to lead a “heroic” opposition of a judicial nominee that doesn’t have the credentials that Christian fundamentalists demand. I tried to contact Brownback’s office today for a comment, but the lines were busy. Salon got through though and this is what they heard:
And Brownback said … well, Brownback said nothing at all. A spokesman for the Kansas senator told War Room that he won’t be making any sort of statement about the nominee at least until tomorrow — a non reaction reaction the spokesman called “conspicuous silence.”
Brownback laid the foundation for this last week when he told several different news outlets that he was expecting nothing less than an outspoken opponent of a woman’s right to chose and gay rights. Obviously Miers is neither. Admittedly we don’t really know what her judicial philosophy is, but that doesn’t make the fundamentalists very happy.

Just a quick note to say keep up the good work - no one deserves it more than Senator Brownback (unless its DeLay, Coburn, or… well, just keep up the good work).
